Formation of YACHT 1979

The Charity, formerly known as the Youth and Community Help Trust (YACHT), was set up in 1979 in Bristol as a Registered Charity by Trustees from all the main Statutory Agencies, such as the Courts, Constabulary, Probation Service and Social Services. The first initiative undertaken by YACHT was the purchase of a Narrowboat, the Community Endeavour, in 1979 followed by another, the Community Spirit, in 1984.

The name of YACHT stemmed mainly from this initiative. The aim of the Trust was to work alongside young disadvantaged people with a view to providing them with constructive activities that would enable them to develop useful social and life skills.
