Yate and Chipping Sodbury Foodbank

Tuesday 28 January - Wheels welcomed Bob and Ian from the Yate and Chipping Sodbury Foodbank who had come in to meet our students from Marlwood and Chipping Sodbury Schools who will be gifting their 'community vehicle' (a Ford Connect van) to this Foodbank.  Bob and Ian told them that the number of people needing help has trebled since 2011 and described how the proposed donation of a van would help them in their work.

Donations come from the public and local schools - our 2 students from Chipping Sodbury School commented that they were aware that their school was involved. Supermarkets do not contribute directly to this Foodbank as it is considered to be based in an 'affluent' area, however, volunteers stand outside the stores and ask shoppers to consider purchasing an item from their list to donate to the Foodbank.

Bob and Ian told the students that a lot of people they have helped in the past return with donations when they are 'back on their feet'.
