Visit to Bristol Reconnect

12 June - Following the handover of the Community Vehicle on Monday 16 March students from Orchard School were invited to visit the newly refurbished Café Connect at Bristol Reconnect.  The students were given the opportunity to sample some of the cakes that were on offer and were also shown how the vehicle has made an enormous difference to how the donated raw ingredients are collected for the Café.  There is also have plans to establish another training kitchen about a mile away from the café, so being able to transport goods between the two locations will be essential.

Café Connect not only provides affordable, sustainably sourced and healthy food to the wider community, it also provides training opportunities in cooking and working in a catering environment to the vulnerable adults they support.

Jonathan said "A Big Thank You to the students from Orchard School who worked on the vehicle, the staff from The Wheels Project and their  funders, Henry Smith Charity for making this possible by providing us with a fabulous van"!

Everyone enjoyed the visit and all agreed the cakes were scrummy!

Term 5 is drawing to a close and we will be finishing it with a karting session at Teamsports in Avonmouth on Thursday 21 May.  All students who have completed a course during this term have been invited to take part.

In Term 6 we will be welcoming back students from Abbeywood Community School, as they return to complete a servicing course.

We will also be welcoming students from the Banes Air Cadets and Southside Youth Club who are attending a Kick Start Karts programme in preparation to coming back during the summer holidays to complete a Community Vehicle Programme.

We wish all our students a well deserved break during the spring bank holiday and to all of those who will be busy revising for exams GOOD LUCK!
